The Granny Smith Challenger (registered as Dalivair) is a premium French bud sport mutation engineered to resolve the commercial cosmetic deficits of the classic variety. Grown on highly vigorous trees requiring universal cross-pollinators, it yields medium-to-large, round fruit. Its standout feature is superior color quality: it is genetically selected to stay 100% intense grass-green, completely resisting the muddy pink blush that standard green apples develop under fierce, high-altitude UV rays. It also boasts high natural resistance to monsoon-induced skin russeting and bitter pit. Requiring 500 to 600 winter chilling hours, it thrives reliably from 5,000 feet up to high Himalayan blocks around 8,000 feet. Harvested late October as seeds blacken, it delivers a sharply tart, crisp flavor profile with an exceptionally dense, juicy, bright-white pulp that stores perfectly for six months in refrigeration and twelve months under controlled atmospheres.
