Bred in 1929 by Edward Tydeman in England and released in 1945, Tydeman's Early Worcester is a classic crossbreed of McIntosh and Worcester Pearmain. Grown on highly vigorous trees with a distinct, straggly "weeping" habit that bears fruit on tip-ends, it yields medium-sized, round-conic fruit averaging 65 to 75 millimeters in diameter and 140 to 170 grams in weight. Its skin features a bright carmine-red blush streaked over a greenish-yellow background. Requiring 600 to 700 chilling hours, it performs beautifully in mid-elevation Himalayan belts between 5,000 and 6,500 feet. Harvested ultra-early from late July to early August, its flavor profile is intensely aromatic, pleasantly sweet, and strawberry-like with a refreshing, light sub-acid tang. The soft, juicy, cream-colored flesh has a very short shelf life, keeping for only one to two weeks before losing pressure.
